Malawi
Malawi is ‘the warm heart of Africa’, or ‘Africa for beginners’; and its lake ‘the lake of stars’. It all seems too good to be true, but, with stunning and varied scenery and supremely friendly locals, along with the relative ease of travel here, Malawi really does live up to the greatest expectations.

Malawi (View PDF)
Malawi is one of the most beautiful countries in Africa, and its crowning glory is its lake. The Lake is approximately 600km in length and
80km wide, and is the third largest body of water in Africa. Lake Malawi is famed for the abundance and diversity of its fish life and holds a
greater array of freshwater fish species than any other lake on Earth.

Kaya Mawa Lodge - Lake Malawi
Kaya Mawa is located on Likoma Island in the far north-east of Lake
Malawi. The island is covered with mango trees and ancient baobabs
and encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves. Ten stone
and teak-framed thatched cottages - including two family cottages
and one honeymoon chalet - have a panoramic view of the lake, and
private terraces with direct access to the water. Each one has en-suite
bathroom facilities, a four-poster bed, shower, and a sunken stone
bathtub. The honeymoon chalet with its incredible views is tucked
away on its own private island. The stunning setting of the lodge and
the unique comfort of the rooms means that many guests choose to
make relaxation their main activity but there are enough activities on
offer to keep guests busy.

Mumbo Island - Lake Malawi
This superb tented camp, accommodating 14 guests, comprises
tastefully furnished, spacious tents with hot bucket showers and ‘ecoloos’.
The camp is perched on rocks high above the water and blends
in perfectly to create a place of rustic charm and minimal impact.
Tucked into the lush foliage, each tent is fully furnished with its own
shaded view-deck and hammock. There is a dining area, bar and water
sport gazebo, all of timber, thatch and canvas. Unlike most island
destinations in the region, Mumbo Island has never been populated
by humans and is still in its natural state. This, together with the focus
on non-motorised water sports, makes Mumbo Island ideal for the
active outdoors enthusiast.

Mvuu Wilderness Lodge - Liwonde National Park
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge nestles discreetly on the banks of a lagoon
just off the Shire River and boasts wonderful views. Mvuu means
“hippo” in Tonga and the name epitomises the many pods of these
water-loving mammals found in the river. In this lush and fertile
area, an excellent diversity of animals - including elephant and sable
antelope, impala and waterbuck - can be seen.
This luxury camp comprises five spacious tents for a maximum of 10
guests, each with en-suite bathroom facilities and a private viewing
platform overlooking the lagoon. Lodge facilities include a dining
room, pub, lounge area, extensive wildlife library, a hide overlooking
the river and a natural rock swimming pool.

Mvuu Wilderness Camp - Liwonde National Park
The camp is a clever mix of stone and canvas chalets and speciallydesigned
family units. An impressive thatched dining and lounge
area is situated nearby, offering a magnificent river vista. Dinners
are sometimes held ‘under the stars’ in a specially constructed boma.
There is a new custom-built education and conference centre with
facilities for up to 40 delegates or smaller corporate and team building
functions.
Mvuu Camp offers a wide range of options including camping,
self-catering and full board rates, as well as a range of activities. The
activities on offer are the same as those offered at Mvuu Wilderness
Lodge, but the camp is better suited either to families or those on a
budget, as rates are more reasonable.
